Ireland jumpers lose out on medals in Belgium
Following Anthony Condon's brilliant bronze medal performance on Friday with Another Riot, hopes were high in the Irish camp.
At the half-way stage yesterday, things were going to plan, with the 15-year-old Waterford lad producing a clear round on Mary Quinlivan's charge to see Ireland in third place.
The team's eight faults were comprised of four from Andrew Ryan (Barry's Beauty) and Heather Purcell (Acapulco).
Mark McAuley and Alias Tom, with eight faults, provided the discard. However, another eight in the second round for a total of 16 saw them finish three faults adrift of third-placed Netherlands. One better was France, with Britain retaining their crown on a zero tally.
Condon took fourth in yesterday's grand prix on Berty Brown. In Waterford, Lieut Shane Carey won his second grand prix in just over a week with a clear round in the jump-off aboard Shannondale. Conor Swail, with Windgates King Koal, was second to extend his lead in the Kerrygold League.
