Beef Or Salmon pleases connections in Cork gallop

BEEF OR SALMON, on the easy-list since disappointing in the Ericsson behind Best Mate at Leopardstown at Christmas, came through an early-morning gallop with flying colours at Cork Racecourse yesterday.

Partnered by Timmy Murphy, he went two miles, accompanied by two stable companions.

One of them travelled the first mile and then dropped out to be replaced by the other.

Speaking at Thurles, trainer, Michael Hourigan, said: “I was very happy with what he did. He will have one more racecourse spin and then it should be all systems go for the Gold Cup.

He remains a 14-1 shot with Ladbrokes, who offer 4-7 Best Mate.

Mouse Morris’ War Of Attrition could well develop into a live outside bet for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Successful twice over flights, he was a sick horse when virtually pulled up behind McGruders Cross at Naas in early January.

Morris, who expects a bold showing from his gelding, said yesterday: “The plan was that he wouldn’t run after Naas anyway.

“He worked great after racing at Leopardstown on Sunday and was electric when Conor O’Dwyer schooled him at home this morning. Conor will ride at Cheltenham.”

Willie Mullins has added Adamant Approach, second behind Alcapone at Thurles yesterday, to his Festival team.

The horse will have a number of entries, but the Carlow handler is favouring a tilt at the Cathcart, for which he was given a 10-1 quote by Cashmans.

“Ruby (Walsh) said the ground was too dead for him today”, reported Mullins.

“He is a horse who has run some cracking races at Cheltenham in the past.”
