Wings puts reputation on the line

FLASHY WINGS, who dominates the ante-post market for next year’s 1000 Guineas, will put her unbeaten record on the line in the Watership Down Stud Sales Race at Newbury today.

Mick Channon’s crack filly is a general 7-1 shot for next year’s Classic and makes an unexpected stop off at the Berkshire track.

Flashy Wings has been the star juvenile of the summer winning all four of her starts in impressive fashion, including the Queen Mary Stakes and the Lowther.

The West Ilsley trainer, who has six engaged in the 23-runner six-furlong dash, was only able to give Flashy Wings the go-ahead after an unfavourable weather forecast proved wide of the mark.

He said: “We had to delay our final decision to run because there was a lot of rain about on Thursday, but in fact the ground should be absolutely perfect for her and everything has fallen into place.

“She is drawn nine and let’s hope she can do the job as smoothly as I hope she can. I am looking forward to the race.”
