Byrnes’ big day

CHARLES BYRNES had a day he will never forget when taking the honours with a big-race double in the space of 30 minutes at Leopardstown yesterday.

Cloudy Bays set up the brace for the Limerick trainer with an impressive 14-length victory over Be My Belle in the Pierse Leopardstown Handicap Chase and has now earned a step up in grade for his next start.

The seven-year-old jumped well for Ross Geraghty to make all the running in the 100,000 contest, despite a 16lb rise in the ratings for an easy success in the Troytown Chase at Navan in November.
