Make it Messenger

NOEL MEADE'S Jazz Messenger has to be the nap choice to win the Grade Two Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Spa Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

The drying ground will be no problem to him and he comes here on the back of a career-best effort in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The five-year-old finished a creditable fifth behind Noland and might have done even better with a bit more luck on his side.

He was badly hampered at the third, made a few mistakes as well and was still only beaten about five lengths.

The form has been working out really well. Runner-up Straw Bear went on to score in a canter at Aintree and sixth placed Natal has also scored in the meantime.

O'Muircheartaigh, having his first outing after a break, was tenth in the Supreme Novices' and there is obviously the possibility he will come on plenty for the run.

But he has eight lengths to make up on the selection and that seems too much.

Artist's Muse, admittedly not one to be overly trusted, gets the vote to take the Weatherbys' Ireland GSB Hurdle.

One might question the resolution of Ted Walsh's mare, but there is no denying her chance in a weak race, having taken second to Shamayoun in the four-year-old handicap hurdle at Cheltenham.

Pat Hughes' Helensburgh gets the nod in the valuable, but wide-open, Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle.

He more than hinted at a return to form when two lengths second to Tipper Road on the level at the Curragh.
