Landis appeal filed to CAS

Floyd Landis should know if his appeal against disqualification from the 2006 Tour de France and a two-year ban has been successful by early next year.

Landis, originally declared winner of the 2006 Tour, has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision to award the race to Spain’s Oscar Pereiro, originally the runner-up.

The court have confirmed receipt of the appeal and revealed a verdict should be reached within four months.

A statement issued by the court said: “The American cyclist Floyd Landis has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision rendered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) on 20 September 2007.

“The AAA Panel had disqualified Floyd Landis from the Tour de France 2006 and had imposed a two-year ban on him. The American rider requests the CAS to annul the AAA decision.

“The directions with respect to the arbitration procedure will be issued later on by the tribunal in accordance with the Code of Sports-related Arbitration. As a general rule, CAS delivers its decisions within four months from the filing of the appeal.”
