British number one Andy Murray was eliminated from the first round of the Monte Carlo Master Series by wildcard Jean-Rene Lisnard.

The Scot, only just recovered from a virus which limited his contribution to the Davis Cup tie against Serbia and Montenegro, struggled as the match stretched past the three-hour mark.

Murray, 18, was also troubled by his injured ankle and limped through the final two games as Monegasque Lisnard won 4-6 7-6 (7/5) 7-5.
