Roddick serves up a treat
Andy Roddick saw off a brave challenge from Wesley Moodie to move through to the third round of the Australian Open.
The second seed was forced to battle for every point on the South African’s serve but eventually defeated the doubles specialist 7-5 6-3 6-2 in the Rod Laver Arena.
The American’s serve was on song throughout the match but Moodie soon proved himself a fitting opponent as both players bulleted down ferocious first serves and held with ease early.
But Moodie had one bad game in the opener – the 12th – and when he was down a break point he double-faulted to gift the set to Roddick.
The second set was also a tight affair as both players blasted aces with ease but Moodie slipped up again in the eighth game to gift the American a 2-0 lead.
Roddick then took pole position in the third set by breaking the South African’s serve in the opening game.
Moodie bravely stuck at it but when Roddick broke him again in the seventh game, the South African finally realised he was a beaten man.
