Rusedski keeps eye on Murray

Greg Rusedski is looking forward to watching Andrew Murray flying the flag for Britain but insists he and Tim Henman are not done just yet.

The British number two takes on powerful Swede Joachim Johansson tomorrow for a place in the third round after impressing yesterday with a 6-4 4-6 6-2 6-1 victory over Spain’s Alberto Martin.

And while he insists he and Tim Henman have a few years left at the top, he admits to being as excited as anyone by the rise of Murray.

“I’m impressed with the fact that he doesn’t mind all the attention,” said Rusedski of the 18-year-old Scot who was due to face Switzerland’s George Bastl in his first round match on Court Two this afternoon.

“When he goes out there he thinks he can beat anybody, so he handles it quite well. But you have to give him some time. Remember, he’s only 18. When I was nearly 20 I was top 50. Tim took till he was 21. So give him the time to have two or three years’ grace.

“If he keeps working with the right people and has the right attitude I think he’ll go a long way. He should get to top 100, top 50. After that it depends how much is there because there’s a lot of great players.

“My advice would be to put your head down, work hard, don’t worry about things. If he does that in the next two years I think he’ll have a great career.”
