Yesterday, Irishman David Burrows enjoyed a successful day in the Finn class, moving up to 10th place in the standings.

The 27-year-old was looking to build on his third-place finish yesterday, but struggled in the first race of the day and came home 18th.

However, he produced a superb display in the next race to finish second behind Ben Ainslie, who leads the overall competition.

High winds forced organisers to abandon the day’s Laser, 49er and men’s 470 rounds, so a number of Irish sailors – including Rory Fitzpatrick – were unable to compete.

In equestrian, Mark Kyle ended the day in 50th position, while Edmond Gibney was 14 places further back.
