Both of Ireland's swimming representatives have decided to act on national coach Ger Doyle's advice and concentrate on one single event each at the Athens Games.

Lisburn's Michael Williamson, a 2003 World Student Games bronze medallist, will concentrate solely on the 200m breaststroke while Bangor woman Emma Robinson has forsaken a freestyle double to aim for a possile semi-final slot in the 100m freestyle.

"I've been tapering down for a quick time and hopefully that will come next week," said Robinson, fastest at the British trials last spring.

"My time (1:09.15) puts me in the world's top twenty so if I can shave another second off I should have a chance to make the final."

23-year-old Williamson has made it known that he would be "disappointed" should he not make the semi-finals of his event.

He is first into action at the Maroussi Aquatic centre on Tuesday morning, with Robinson, 26, following 24 hours later.
