Hewitt cruises to quarter-final

Lleyton Hewitt continued his serene progress at Wimbledon with a straight-sets victory over Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.

The top seed, yet to drop a set, triumphed 6-3 6-3 7-5 in the fourth round on Centre Court.

The Australian faces Holland's Sjeng Schalken, the 18th seed, in Wednesday's quarter-finals.

Hewitt broke his young opponent in the second game of the match and, after saving one break point in the fifth game, held his remaining two service games to love to take the set 6-3.

Although the Russian showed glimpses of his ability with some flashing backhands, Hewitt's blistering pace around the court made him difficult to beat from the back of the court.

Youzhny saved two break points in the opening game of the second set but then lost his serve twice in a row.

Youzhny broke back to reduce his deficit to 5-3, but Hewitt regained his focus to break again in the next game to take the set 6-3.

He was given a much tougher examination in the third set, saving three break points in the seventh game and coming back from 0-30 down in his next service game.

Youzhny's one-handed backhand produced some sublime winners from all sorts of angles, but the 20-year-old could not maintain such high standards for long enough.

Two backhand errors ironically proved his downfall as he was broken in the 12th game to give Hewitt a place in the last eight.
