Swiss prodigy Roger Federer rocked Pete Sampras by winning the first set of their fourth-round clash at Wimbledon.

Swiss prodigy Roger Federer rocked Pete Sampras by winning the first and third sets of their fourth-round clash at Wimbledon.

The 19-year-old must have thought he had blown his chance after having three break points for a 3-1 lead, only for reigning champion Sampras to haul himself back into the set.

In the tie-break however, the seven-times champion was undone by a combination of bad umpiring and bad luck.

Firstly, a serve by Federer which was clearly out was allowed to stand, then a backhand by the Swiss teenager struck the net-cord and looped over, leaving Sampras stranded.

Federer went on to take the tie-break 9-7 to put himself a set up.

However, the top seed and reigning champion Pete Sampras won the second set 7-5 against 15th seed Roger Federer, of Switzerland, to level fourth round match at 1-1.

But the champion was put on the ropes again as Federer won the third set of their match to lead 2-1.
