Tennis: Hingis's new boyfriend put stalker behind bars
The boyfriend who will watch tennis ace Martina Hingis at Wimbledon has been named as the man who prosecuted her stalker earlier this year.
Chris Calkin, 31, led the prosecution which put obsessed fan Dubravko Rajcevic behind bars for two years for his pursuit of the tennis star.
On June 25 he will swap his law court in Miami for centre court at Wimbledon to cheer on his new girlfriend.
He met her for the first time the day before she went on the witness stand to testify against her 46-year-old stalker.
Hesaid: "She's a fabulous lady. I'm happier than I've ever been."
The Miami Dade County prosecutor earns a fraction of Hingis's annual earnings, estimated to have topped £7.8m last year, but has pledged to pay his way to support his new love, ranked number one in women's tennis.
"I'm willing to spend whatever money I can gather, and whatever time I can set aside from my caseload to be there for her," he said.
"Being able to see her and spend some time with her during a very important time in her life is important to me. Hopefully, the seats are good."
The romance began after Rajcevic was sentenced to the maximum two years in prison.
"Nothing ever existed between Martina and me until after the close of the case and the sentencing," he said. "Things happened from there."
