Tennis: I'm playing better than ever - Agassi

Andre Agassi admitted he is playing better than ever after his straight sets victory over Pete Sampras in the final of the Tennis Masters Series.

The 30-year-old defeated Sampras 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 6-1 in a thrilling encounter.

It secured the American his first title in 13 trips to Indian Wells.

Agassi said: "It boils down to my movement and fitness.

"I feel like I'm a better athlete than I've ever been. I have more options.

"When you're physically holding up and you have the years of experience, it seems like it all comes together a bit easier."

There was little between the two players in the first two sets, but Agassi dominated the third.

He broke Sampras' serve at the start of the set and stormed to an impressive victory.

It was the 30th meeting of the two players, and they did not disappoint the crowd of more than 12,000.

Agassi has now won 13 matches against Sampras since their first meeting in 1989.

Sampras, who made 49 unforced errors to Agassi's 10, agreed that his longtime rival's game is extremely sharp.

"He's playing great, not missing much," said Sampras.

"He's pretty much at a level like he was a number of years ago when he was number one in the world."
