Venus Williams and Martina Hingis will came head-to-head in the last four of the Australian Open following two marathon quarter-finals in Melbourne.

Williams came from one set down, and 5-3 down in the third and deciding set to beat South African Amanda Coetzer 2-6 6-1 8-6, while number one seed Hingis overcame Serena Williams in another thrill-a-minute three-set quarter-final.

Hingis won the opening set 6-2, and seemed to have the best of it while Williams battled against a stomach upset - however, the younger of the two Americans battled through to level it by claiming the middle set 6-3.

She then powered into a 4-1 lead in the third to bring an all-Williams semi-final within touching distance. However, Hingis won five of the next six games to open up a 6-5 lead, and following a dramatic climax, the 20-year-old came through to a 2-6 6-3 8-6 triumph.
