No extra funding for Rheinisch

EOIN RHEINISCH’S fourth place finish in an Olympics final won’t mean any increased funding for the Kildare man.

Rheinisch revealed that he received a €20,000 grant from the Sports Council this year. But that figure would have doubled had he won a medal in yesterday’s thrilling Kayak final.

He said: “I don’t think it will affect my grant because you have to be top three at the Olympics to move up to world class and to move up into the top three you have to be a contracted athlete.
