Lacklustre couple disappoint in Mexico

World 100m record holder Tim Montgomery and former Olympic champion Marion Jones made little impact on their return to action in Mexico.

Montgomery, who is awaiting the result of a doping hearing, posted a poor 10.43 seconds as he trailed in next-to-last in Monterrey.

American JJ Johnson won the race in 10.18sec ahead of Marc Burns.

Jones - Montgomery’s partner - finished fourth in the women’s 100m in 11.40sec, behind Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas.

Montgomery appeared at a Court of Arbitration for Sport doping hearing in San Francisco on Monday that could result in a lifetime ban.

The American, who has never failed a drugs test, faced doping charges brought by the US Anti-Doping Agency in wake of the Balco drugs scandal.

Maurice Greene upset Olympic 200m champion Shawn Crawford in the 100m, clocking 10.08.
