Good day for Irish schools team

The Kit Kat Irish Schools' Team had another successful day at the annual Schools' Track & Field International on Saturday, which held this year at Chelmsford in England.

In all Ireland won 2 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Ireland had some outstanding performances and the star performer was undoubtedly Alex Smith of England who sent the hammer out to an incredible 76.52 metres.

From an Irish point of view Ciarán O'Lionard ran away from the field in the 1500 metres to win impressively with David McCarthy following him home. At the very end of the day our girls 4 x 100 relay team of Chloe Kinsella, Kalyn Sheahan, Máiréad Murphy and Gemma Hynes took advantage of a mistake by the English to take the gold medal.
