Taylor favourite for finals

Ireland’s Katie Taylor is through to the finals of the European women’s boxing championships in Norway.

Last evening the 18-year-old Bray girl, who is a leading goal scorer for Ireland's ladies soccer team, outpointed the reigning European champion, Galsam Tatar of Turkey on a countback after a thrilling semi-final bout.

She should now be favourite for the 60kg title going into tomorrow’s final against Eva Walstrom from Finland at 4pm.

Ireland’s other representative Alanna Murphy from Belfast, lost to another Turk, Kiymet Karpa-zogla, 22-11, in the 63 kg division.
