Fitzpatrick sets new record

OLYMPIC 49er sailor Tom Fitzpatrick (Howth YC) set an Irish record when he won the Allianz Irish Helmsmans’ title in a blistering five race final at Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club on Belfast Lough yesterday.

Crewed by Killian Collins, Fitzpatrick decisively clinched the title with an easy win in the last race.

In the Junior event the Laser Radial European Youth champion, George Kingston from Royal Cork and Kinsale Yacht Clubs, dominated the 11-strong fleet, winning two of the five races in the final.

Another Royal Cork sailor, Katie Tingle, shone in the Ladies event with four first places in five races, winning by a comfortable margin.
