Hungarians lose Olympic appeal

Olympic chiefs yesterday welcomed a decision by the highest court in sport to dismiss the appeals of two Hungarian athletes who had their gold medals in Athens stripped for violating anti-doping rules.

Hammer thrower Adrian Annus was banned after he provided two urine samples which tested negative but were shown to have come from two different people. He later failed to appear for another test.

Robert Fazekas, who won the discus, was disqualified after he refused to provide a urine sample.

Both athletes appealed to the Switzerland-based Court for Arbitration in Sport (CAS) but were unsuccessful.
