Too Steamy making all the waves
Conditions were very light. After an hour the breeze died completely for the boats racing outside the harbour while those racing inside remained in a north westerly breeze.
In the high performance IRM Class Too Steamy has now moved into first position, with Wolf and Bounder C in second and third places respectively. Bear of Britain is in ninth with Tigger having moved to seventh from first on Monday.
In the IRC 0 Colm Barrington of Dublin in Gloves Off now holds first place followed by Thunder 2 and Island Fling. The Swan 651, Desperado, one of the hot contenders in this class is now in fourth position.
In IRC 1 Cajou has held her first place but is now followed by Nimmo and Bateleur in second and third respectively. Ger O’Rourke’s Chieftain has moved from third to seventh place.
In IRC 2 Jacobite has moved from fourth to first position followed by Canterbury. In third is Joggernaut.
In IRC 3 Alchemist holds first place followed by Jacana and the well known sailing writer Bob Fisher in Zeal in third place. In IRC 4 there is no change with Sibelius, The Red Dragon Avocet retaining positions.
In IRC 5 the much fancied Phantom has moved from eighth to third with Humphrey Go-Kart and Kit Off retaining first and second places respectively. In this class the Wild Goose Victory Chase sailed by the Irish Guide Dogs in 39th position and if the wind picks up is expected to rapidly move upwards.
In IRC 6 Cork’s Jerome McCarthy in Le Big Mc now holds first place with Flash 2 having moved from third to second and Full Circle replacing local boat Animal in third position.
In IRC 7, positions have changed with Throbber in first place, Cool Runnings, sailed by Paralympian John Twomey, second, and Relativity third.
In the Prima 38 Class Bare Knuckles is now in first position with Born Slippy and White Knuckles in second and third respectively after a ding-dong battle. Competition in this class, as in all classes is extremely keen.
The X332 Class also competing in their class championships, being held outside Britain for the first time, sailed the Olympic course three miles south of Roches Point. This will be a very hard fought battle for the title and positions have remained unchanged since yesterday with Carabistouilles, Tundra and Exabyte retaining their first, second and third respectively.
In the 1720 Class, ex-Admiral Anthony O’Leary was first off the line in Ford racing but his luck did not hold and he finished in 11th position. First was Babbalaas Bach, followed by Jacob and Aquatack.
The ECHO class is particularly interesting with the number of locally well known boats competing. Positions have now changed with Rom Hyde’s Night Owl in first place followed by Blade Runner and Kermit.
Local boats Flying Fish, Java and Aphrodite are lying sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
The mixed Sports Boat Class has some of the new SB3 Lasers sailing and these are being watched with great interest. White Lightning has now given away her first place to Richard Gibson’s Laser SB3 with Squelchy Monkey in third position. Tomorrow in this class Chris Bruen sailing Somethin Brewin will be joined by International 14 crew Karen Evans as they compete in their Open 5.7.
This is one of a range of boats being imported by Chris Bruen and is a very interesting boat of a Finot Design and built by Phileas Boats in France.
In the IRC Gentlemen Class Signita has retained her second place with Scudamore leading and Coosi Fun Tutte in third place. In the hotly contested Hunter 707 Class Championship Censored has retained first position with Beaver Hunter and EMU Excursion having moved to second and third places.
The Salcombe Yawls first position has not changed with Tease still leading followed by Rum Tum Tigger and Chicken Run. The Sigma 38 Class overnight race which commenced on Sunday was abandoned due to the boats not finishing within the time limit owing to light conditions and this was a great disapointment to the sailors concerned.
