Carroll eyes record after top six finish

MARK CARROLL is looking for a fast marathon in the spring and is eyeing either London or Boston in search of the Irish record after placing sixth in the New York City Marathon in 2:10:54 on Sunday — the second fastest time ever behind John Treacy’s 2:09:18.

“That’s probably worth 2:08 at least on a flat course,” his agent, Ray Flynn, said yesterday. “It is going to be very interesting to see what he does on one of the European courses.

“I think he showed a lot of courage yesterday. After all it was his first marathon and he had a very frustrating track season. He has been very dedicated since the European championships in August and it paid off today.
