Poor start to the season for Capriati

JENNIFER CAPRIATI'S preparations for next week's Australian Open were halted yesterday when she was beaten 4-6 6-4 7-5 by Russian Tatiana Panova in the second round of the Sydney International.

Capriati, playing her first match of the year after receiving a first-round bye, has no more competitive tennis before she begins her Australian Open defence next week.

"I've just got to forget about it and think about next week," the top-seed ed American said.
