ANDY LEE added another gold medal to his collection with an impressive victory in the finals of the Four Nations championships in Liverpool last night.

His was one of three gold medals for the Irish boxers who survived Thursday night’s semi-finals, with welterweight Karl Brabazon and light heavyweight Kenneth Egan also winning their finals.

Lee, who was disappointed with his performance on Thursday night, got it all together against stylish Scot Craig McEwan and won decisively, 17-6, picking his man off with some accurate right jabs and putting some good combinations together.

Karl Brabazon, who stripped Henry Coyle of his welterweight title two weeks earlier and then went on to claim the title last Friday night, was ultra-impressive last night once again when he came from two points down to outpoint Brett Sloursnoy 17-13.

Kenneth Egan, who won his semi-final by virtue of a third round knock out, had this contest won in the first round a he punched his way to an 8-0 lead before his opponent, David Kendleson, made any impression.

Early in the second round the end was in sight as the Dubliner continued to pick off the punches with left jabs, right crosses and some textbook combinations before the 20 pt rule was invoked with his leading 24-4.

Light welterweight David Joyce (St Michael’s Athy) lost 41-11 to the lightning fast Jamie Cox while, at light flyweight, Conor Ahern lost 23-15 to Darren Langley from England.
