Haga wins at Brands Hatch

A spectacular last-lap overtaking manoeuvre earned Renegade Ducati rider Noriyuki Haga victory in the first World Superbike race at Brands Hatch.

Haga emerged triumphant following a thrilling duel with Ducati Fila rival Regis Laconi who had been dicing with the Japanese rider since the opening corner.

And it had been Laconi who held the advantage on the penultimate lap at the 2.6-mile circuit but Haga nipped in front at the Surtees corner only for Laconi to hit back at Hawthorn Bend.

A determined Haga was not to be denied and the decisive overtaking move came at Stirling Bend. Laconi was then denied any opportunity to respond before the chequered flag was unfurled, Steve Martin was third on the DFXtreme Sterilgarda Ducati.
