Tingle through to World Optimist Championships

KATIE TINGLE (RCYC) has qualified for the World Optimist Championships, following her domination of the 18-race Allianz-sponsored Irish Optimist National Team sailing trials at Lough Ree and Broadmeadow, Malahide.

The first five finishers in the series qualified for the World Championships at St Moritz, Switzerland, in late July.

The next seven sailors (of which at least three have to be of the same gender) qualify for the European Championships to be held in Gdansk, Poland, in early July.

Tingle qualified for the world team with three races to go, ensuring her fourth appearance for her country at an international optimist championship.

Fellow club member David Kenefick also performed consistently to finish second, with Timothy O’Laoire (HYC) finishing third.
