Top class line-up set for City Sports
“The fact that is has been tied in with the European City of Culture has definitely raised the profile of the meeting among the European nations,” Chairman Dick Hodgins said yesterday.
“We have had quite a number of enquiries and we would expect many more over the coming months. At the moment we just have the provisional programme and that can be altered to accommodate the athletes who will actually be coming to Cork as the date draws nearer.
And they will almost certainly include Olympic medalists from Athens and, the meeting would hardly be complete without of Sonia O’Sullivan.
The organisers were delighted with the news at the weekend that the meeting has retained 12th place on the EAA ranking list, at a time when other meets in places like Greece and Switzerland were slapped on the wrist for organisation.
