Cork club reach final of Barton Shield at Shandon Park

Douglas remain on track in their bid for an historic treble at Shandon Park. 

The Cork club reached the final of the Barton Shield on Wednesday, the first leg as they look to retain both the AIG Men’s and Women’s Senior Cups while aiming to secure their first Barton Shield All-Ireland title in 35 years and become the first club to win all three pennants in the same year.

In the morning match, Douglas defeated Royal Portrush by six holes overall. 

Kyle McCarron and Karl Bornemann beat Matthew McClean and Ollie McEvoy by five holes, with the pairing of Justin Dennehy and Peter O’Keeffe defeating Matthew McAlpin and William Beatty by one hole.

In an unchanged line-up for the semi-final against Munster rivals Lahinch, McCarron and Bornemann again won by five holes in the top match against Stephen Loftus and Bob Casey. Dennehy and O’Keeffe lost by one hole to Jonathan Keane and Thomas Neenan.

Douglas will now take on Royal Dublin in the final, after they defeated Donaghadee and Athenry.

In the Senior Foursomes, Co Sligo will play Elm Park in today’s final.
