Paul McGinley has all manner of irons in the fire. Just announced as a ‘strategic adviser’ to Europe’s Ryder Cup team for next year’s renewal in New York, the Dubliner has his tv analysis, an eponymous golf design business and more again to stay sharp.

Tuesday found him holding court at his home course, Grange Golf Club in Rathfarnham, taking the fourth estate through the process of a comprehensive €3.6m development of the 24-hole layout in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains.
