Lowry four shots off Italian lead

Shane Lowry is four shots off the lead after his third round in the Italian Open.

The Offaly man is 11 under while Nicolas Colsaerts shot 65 in his penultimate round to share the clubhouse lead at the Italian Open.

Four straight birdies around the turn were central to the Belgian’s seven-under-par round as he came from well off the pace to put himself in front in Turin.

A fifth in six holes followed at the 13th, having also birdied the first and fourth and though he gave one shot back at the 16th, he birdied the last to join home favourite Matteo Manassero at the summit.

The youngster produced a 65 of his own, featuring three birdies in the last four holes and four at the last six.

Welshman Philip Price was six under through 15 holes to leave him also 13 under along with Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and South African Garth Mulroy, both two under for seven holes on the day.

Scotland’s Marc Warren was 12 under along with overnight leader Richard Bland, first-round leader Joel Sjoholm of Sweden, Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Frenchman Gregory Bourdy

Bland’s fellow Englishmen Graeme Storm and Sam Little were a shot further back along with Lowry.

German Martin Kaymer, Colsaerts’ team-mate at Medinah next week, and a second Italian in Lorenzo Gagli were also among the massed ranks at 11 under.
