Luke Donald described the atmosphere at Royal Lytham so far this week as “eerily quiet,” but all that will change if he or Lee Westwood can become the first English winner of an Open Championship on English soil in 43 years.

The same could be said for any of the other 19 Englishmen in the field of course, but the focus is firmly on Donald and Westwood, ranked first and third in the world respectively but both seeking a maiden major title.
