Padraig Harrington made a strong start to the defence of his Iskandar Johor Open title as an opening 64 left the Irishman one shot off the lead midway through the first round in Malaysia.

Harrington lifted the trophy 12 months ago when the tournament was part of the Asian Tour and having missed the cut at last week's Singapore Open, bounced back with a seven-under-par total at Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club to trail Dutchman Joost Luiten by one stroke in the event now co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
