The final day of the Solheim Cup got off to a dramatic start when Europe took a 9-8 lead following the withdrawal of Cristie Kerr at Castle Killeen, County Meath.

The American had been due to face Karen Stupples in the final singles match but an apparent right arm injury forced her to pull out.

Kerr, the 2010 LPGA champion, has suffered from tendinitis and she was in tears on the driving range prior to her scheduled match as she attempted to warm up.

Kerr’s withdrawal means it was a conceded match, thus handing Europe a point.
