Open organisers increase prize money

The winner of next month’s Open Championship at Sandwich will receive £900,000 - £50,000 more than South African Louis Oosthuizen earned at St Andrews last July.

The total purse is up from £4.8m to £5m and even the player finishing 10th will pocket more than £100,000.

Royal and Ancient Club chief executive Peter Dawson said: “Each year The R&A strives to ensure that The Open provides the very best in all areas of the event.
