Open organisers increase prize money
The winner of next month’s Open Championship at Sandwich will receive £900,000 - £50,000 more than South African Louis Oosthuizen earned at St Andrews last July.
The total purse is up from £4.8m to £5m and even the player finishing 10th will pocket more than £100,000.
Royal and Ancient Club chief executive Peter Dawson said: “Each year The R&A strives to ensure that The Open provides the very best in all areas of the event.
“From spectator and media facilities to player experience and performance reward every aspect of The Open is under regular review to ensure it remains at the forefront of championship golf.”
