Grand Slam blow for Oosthuizen

Open champion Louis Oosthuizen has pulled out of next week's money-spinning Grand Slam in Bermuda because of his ankle injury.

The 36-hole event is intended to bring together the season's four Major winners but South African Oosthuizen is the second player to withdraw.

Masters winner Phil Mickelson, who has been suffering from psoriatic arthritis, decided not to make the trip and was replaced Ernie Els, and now Oosthuizen's spot goes to American David Toms.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who captured the US Open in June, and German Martin Kaymer, winner of the US PGA Championship, complete the line-up competing for a first prize of £376,000 (€426,500).

Second place is worth £188,000 (€213,250), third £156,000 (€176,952) and even the player finishing last takes home £125,000 (€141,789).

Oosthuizen damaged ligaments stepping into a pothole and could not play last week's Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland either.
