Wie wins second LPGA title
Michelle Wie secured her second career LPGA title as she held her nerve to shoot a two-under-par 70 and win the CN Canadian Women's Open by three shots.
The American had entered the final round level with Korea's Jiyai Shin and both players dropped a shot early in their final round.
But Wie went on to pick up five shots, including a crucial run of three-straight birdies from 13 through 15, as well as shooting two bogeys as she opened up a comfortable cushion over her rivals to win with a tournament score of 12 under.
Shin fell away badly as she carded three birdies and four bogeys in total to shoot a 73 and end up in a four-way tie for second place.
Kristy McPherson shot a flawless round of 66 to move to nine under while defending champion Suzann Pettersen and Lee Jee-young both recorded rounds of 69 to complete the quartet.
Kim In-kyung and Morgan Pressel were next up at eight and seven under respectively.
Wie admitted that her run of birdies on the back nine had been vital.
She said: "You know that was a really great putt, a really good confidence booster for me on 13 to make that putt going onto 14. I haven't been making a lot of putts the entire week, so it was good to make that; and then the chip was great. Everything kind of worked for me, and it was awesome.
"I made a lot of crucial putts out there today. I made a lot of putts, but at the same time I made a lot of really crucial putts.
"And you know, I think it was my ball striking that really kept me above water today. I have been working really hard at it and it's really nice to see that it pays off."
Wales' Becky Morgan ended the tournament as the top British challenger as a final-round 69 left her on five under par. Scotland's Catriona Matthew finished at three under after a disappointing 74 while England's Laura Davies was at level par after a four-under-par 68.
