Tiger set to reveal plans on Friday

Tiger Woods will break his silence and make a statement about his future on Friday.

Woods revealed in December last year he was taking an indefinite break from golf in order to save his marriage, having admitted “infidelity” in his marriage to wife Elin.

Rumours he would return to the game at this week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson proved unfounded, but the world number one could be set to make a return soon.

According to a statement issued by his agent, Mark Steinberg, and his spokesman, Glenn Greenspan, and obtained by Bloomberg News: “Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates at 11am EST (4pm Irish Time) Friday at the TPC Sawgrass clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

“Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he plans to apologise for his behaviour.”

“This will not be an open media event. However, it is understood that there are many media who are interested in what he has to say.

“In order to accommodate as best we can, we are working to arrange pool coverage of Tiger’s remarks.

“There will be network pool cameras providing coverage of his talk. The feed will be available live to any network or station that wishes to air it.

“A limited number of print and wire service reporters will be in attendance and will share their notes, colour and background on a pooled basis.”

Possibilities for Woods to return to action would appear to be at either the WGC-CA Championship in Miami on March 11-14 or the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando two weeks later.

An alternative, though, is the unofficial – and private – Tavistock Cup match on his home course Isleworth on March 22-23.

That is an annual made-for-television affair between the star-studded club members of Isleworth and Lake Nona, and Woods has played every year since the inaugural event in 2004.

Not that there is any certainty Woods intends to play any time soon.

He is reported to have spent time in a sex addiction clinic in Mississippi, and trying to repair his marriage appears to be his top priority rather than making sure he has a tournament under his belt before The Masters in April.
