Lin overcomes the elements to win in Taiwan

Lin Wen-tang overcame strong winds and heavy rain to capture his fifth Asian Tour title at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters today.

With Typhoon Parma heading towards Chinese Taipei, torrential rain and strong winds beset the Taiwan Golf and Country Club for the final round.

But Lin managed to record a steady even-par 72 to finish three shots ahead of compatriot Lu Wen-teh with a three-day total of eight-under-par 280.

Lu took second place with a 73 for a 283 overall score while overnight leader Udorn Duangdecha of Thailand (77) claimed third place on 284.

Chinese Taipei’s Lin Keng-chi (73) finished fourth on 285 while compatriot Chan Yih-shin took fifth place after a 74 for a 289 total.

“I’m really happy with the way I played today,” said Lin Wen-tang. “It was tough but I’m glad I survived. I kept believing in myself in these wet and windy conditions and I’m very pleased with how things have turned out this week.”
