Woods takes lead in Illinois
Tiger Woods took sole ownership of the lead midway through his third round at the BMW Championship in Illinois.
The world number one was tied at the top of the leaderboard with Mark Wilson overnight, but his fellow American fell away badly today reaching the turn one over for the round after three bogeys.
Woods, meanwhile, was four under for the same period, the highlight an eagle at the par-five ninth, to put him 11 under for the tournament.
His closest challengers were compatriot Matt Kuchar and Australian Marc Leishman, both nine under.
Kuchar was six under for the day after 16, storming through the field from tied 13th overnight, while Leishman was three under through 12.
John Senden, also of Australia, held the clubhouse lead on seven under after a five-under round of 66.
England’s Ian Poulter was also back in the clubhouse one stroke back on Senden, while his countryman Luke Donald was on the same mark with two holes to play.
A clutch of players were in the mix on six under including Jim Furyk, Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia.
