Only three players are under par at the halfway stage of the Irish PGA Championship at the European Club south of Dublin – and Padraig Harrington is the best of them.

Desperate to build confidence after five successive missed cuts in Europe and America, Harrington today added a 70 to his opening 68 to be four under and one ahead of Dundalk’s Leslie Walker.

For the past two years Harrington has used the event for links practice and has taken the title before going on to Open Championship glory.
