New Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has refused to panic amid calls to increase the number of captain’s picks that will be at his disposal at Celtic Manor next year.

The 45-year-old five-time winner was appointed in Dubai yesterday and although the move is seen as the first step in regaining the initiative following the defeat at Valhalla, Montgomerie refused to confirm any changes to the qualification process.
