Seve 'still stable'

Seve Ballesteros remains in a “stable condition” following his latest operation, doctors at Madrid’s La Paz hospital announced today.

The surgery, which lasted more than six hours, was declared a success last night, with doctors stressing there had been no complications in the procedure to alleviate pressure on the brain caused by an edema and to remove remaining tumour tissues.

And the hospital confirmed today his condition has not changed.

“We only want to say that Severiano Ballesteros continues to be in a stable condition within the seriousness of his condition and remains in the Intensive Care Unit,” read a brief statement.

Spaniard Ballesteros, the 51-year-old five-time major winner, was diagnosed with a tumour earlier this month and before yesterday’s surgery he had already undergone two operations – the second to reduce swelling on the brain.
