Defending champion out of South of Ireland championship
Defending champion Darren Crowe crashed out of the weather-delayed South of Ireland championship at Lahinch.
The Dunmurry man beat Malone’s Simon Doherty 5 and 4 in the third round but saw his title slip away in the afternoon when he went down 3 and 1 to Kieran Canty of Douglas.
One down after six holes, 37-yar-old Canty birdied the eighth and ninth to turn the match around, parred the 10th to go two up and then delivered a killer blow when he rifled a five iron to six feet at the 12th to set up a winning eagle three.
"When I got ahead I wasn't going to hand him anything,” Canty said.
"If he made birdies well and good. Thankfully he didn't throw any at me."
Play was suspended by lightning late in the day and will resume on Tuesday at 7am with five fourth round matches to be completed.
