Storm broods over final round
Graeme Storm was frustrated with his efforts on the last day of the CA Championship yesterday, after he failed to launch a credible push for the title in Miami.
Storm still finished top European, tied for sixth behind winner Geoff Ogilvy, but the Englishman was hoping for even better.
“I was disappointed with the way I played the back nine this morning,” said the 30-year-old from Hartlepool, who had to complete the final nine holes at Doral’s Blue Monster on yesterday following Sunday’s weather delay.
“I was just so nervous and jumpy. I was fine during the night, but when I got back out there, I don’t know what happened.”
Storm, playing in the final group with Ogilvy and runner-up Vijay Singh, was in a position he had not previously experienced at this level,
He hit a couple of bad shots and made a bogey, before battling on when he could easily have fallen further in the wrong direction, finishing four shots behind Ogilvy at Doral’s Blue Monster.
“I managed to get it around in one-over (on the back nine),” he said. “It’s a slight disappointment but a great week and I enjoyed the experience.”
Storm will play only one more tournament before his first child is born in about a month’s time, but during his absence from competition he will reflect that he has proved he has the game to compete with the very best, although there is still room for improvement.
“It just shows how far I’ve come in the last few years,” said the 1999 British amateur champion.
“I’ve got to say, the talent I was playing with, hopefully I can get to that sort of standard and progress even further.”
