Tiger on the prowl in Miami
Tiger Woods wasted no time surging into a share of the lead early in the second round at the CA Championship in Florida today.
Woods, seeking to extend his incredible winning streak to eight tournaments, picked up an eagle at the par-five 12th to go seven-under for the tournament at Doral Resort’s Blue Monster.
After reaching a greenside bunker with his second shot, he holed out from 40 feet, much to the delight of the overflowing gallery.
Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who shared the overnight lead with Australian Geoff Ogilvy, remained as he started the day after one birdie and one bogey in the first three holes.
Luke Donald headed the British contingent after picking up an early birdie to go five-under after four holes.
Woods has not been beaten in more than six months, winning five US PGA Tour events, one European Tour tournament, as well as his own unofficial event.
Unfortunately for many of his fans, they missed the first few holes due to a massive queue that stretched for several hundred yards outside the main entrance.
The world number one has been almost unbeatable in this tournament, with six victories from eight starts.
For the second successive day a testing breeze prevailed, but today it was an easterly, which was likely to make the course play somewhat harder than in yesterday’s northerly.
The par-four 18th is usually a monster but it was a less-than daunting prospect playing downwind.
For the second round, however, the crosswind was likely to play havoc with tee shots as players tried to avoid the water on the left and the rough and trees on the right.
