Faldo makes early move

Nick Faldo made a slow start but was soon into his stride on his debut at the Senior British Open this morning.

Faldo bogeyed the par-four 448-yard first hole but the 50-year-old three-time Open Championship winner made amends with birdies at the third, fourth, fifth and seventh to go to three under par, and outright second place.

That put Faldo, making his seniors debut, one shot behind Dave Stockton, the former United States Ryder Cup captain and two-time USPGA winner.

Stockton, 65, was four under after ten holes of his first round at Muirfield.

Americans Scott Hoch and Bob Gilder were in a tie for fourth on two under with England’s Gordon Brand Jr and Nick Job, and Japan’s Kiyoshi Murota.
