Hole-in-one for Walker helps him into the lead in Scotland

Neil Walker closed in on victory in the latest PGA EuroPro Tour event with a fantastic performance on the second day.

His round of 65 was the best by any player in the tournament and saw him move into first place at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Peebles, Scotland.

Walker, who finished second in the first event at Wensum Valley, Norfolk, shot a hole-in-one at the 189-yard par-three ninth as he moved on to 11-under for the competition.

He sits one shot ahead of Christopher Hanson after the day one leader registered a 68 after a 66 on Wednesday to be on ten-under.

Elsewhere, Paul Maddy has made the cut for the first time this season after a stunning round of 66 on the second day of the latest PGA EuroPro Tour event.

Maddy, a member of the Cambridgeshire-based Gog Magog Golf Club, hit a six-under score that, at one stage, moved him into a joint share of the lead.

He has had to battle through two rounds of Qualifying School in early April and his performance has ensured he would play in the final day of a EuroPro Tour tournament for the first time since turning professional.

Among the players joining Maddy on the final day is 29-year-old Matthew Ford, a former England amateur international, who is a member of the Marriott Tudor Park Golf Club in Maidstone, Kent.

Ford has been a professional for four years and finished 25th in the 2006 order of merit after a season that included a second-place finish at the Players Club tournament in Bristol in July.

He fired a 66 to move on to six-under after 36 holes to complete a fine recovery after he had been struggling at three-over during the early part of his first round.

Matthew Woods, who is the only player to have finished inside the top 20 of all three tournaments so far this season, was on course for another high position.

His second day effort of 68 took him to two-under and helped him make the cut for the fourth successive time.
