Coughlan on form in Spain

Cork's Claire Coughlan fired an opening one under par 71 to lie just three shots off the lead after the first day’s play at the LET Final Qualifying School at La Cala Resort in Spain today.

Coughlan’s round included three bogeys in four holes from the tenth but birdies on 6, 11, 15 and 17 saw her safely tie 10th place overnight.

Martina Gillen carded a brave two over par 74 which included a wretched triple bogey on the 13th, her fourth hole. Gillen made amends by covering the inward nine in one under par and is tied 35th.

Hazel Kavanagh started with a birdie at the first but had to wait until the 18th for her next in her opening 77 that sees her lie in joint 63rd place.

All 95 competitors play the first 54-holes before the cut of 50 players (+ ties) contest the final round on Saturday.

At the conclusion of 72 holes, the top 25 players will obtain full playing rights for the 2007 Ladies European Tour, while the remaining 25 (+ ties) will secure conditional playing privileges.
